Recipe is from the Best Eastern Dostyk hotel in Almaty, Kazakhstan. From my grandmother's recipe box and dates from the '60's.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup dried prune, pitted
  • 1 cup pistachio nut

Instructions
 

  • Bring water to a boil in a large pot.
  • Add rest of ingredients. Simmer for 20-30 min until water is absorbed.
  • Use fork to fluff rice and serve.
